Scholarships
The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Educational Foundation has established a scholarship fund primarily for MCPS graduating seniors. In addition, the Educational Foundation has partnered with several Montgomery County senators and delegates to identify students for legislative scholarships. Scholarships range from $500 to $3,000 for students who plan to attend Montgomery College. If funding is available, delegate scholarships may be renewed until completion of an associate’s degree.
Eligibility
Students will be selected for these scholarships based on financial need and strong academic potential. Although a minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required, students with higher grade point averages may be given preference. Counselor or teacher recommendations are important considerations as well.
Students should visit the Who Are Your Elected Officials site to check their address to determine in which district they live as funding amounts vary from district to district. Although students who plan to attend one of the Montgomery College campuses will be given preference for the legislative scholarships, students planning to attend other colleges in Maryland may apply and will be considered if funds are available. Students who receive a legislative scholarship must follow the instructions requiring that they officially accept the award.
Applications
Application packets will be sent to all high school career centers. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2010, to:
Mr. Larry A. Bowers
Chief Operating Officer
