Giving Even More Back(packs) in 2020

Over 26,000 students received school supply kits through the GIVE BACKpacks campaign

Give Backpacks Logo 2021Thanks to generous support from the community, the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) GIVE BACKpacks campaign supported 26,111 students during the 2020-2021 school year.

The MCPS Partnerships Unit conducts the GIVE BACKpacks campaign. Like the name implies, the campaign provides backpacks filled with basic school supplies – like pens, paper, crayons, binders, etc. – to students in need. The backpacks also vary slightly for elementary school students versus secondary school students.

The campaign typically distributes approximately 18,000 backpacks. However, the COVID-19 pandemic created employment disruptions for many MCPS parents, increasing the number of students who needed help obtaining supplies. Fortunately, businesses, foundations, associations, faith-based organizations, educational institutions, staff, and community members contributed to the campaign, helping to meet the increased demand.

The GIVE BACKpacks campaign for the 2021-2022 school year marks the 10th year of the campaign and launched in May. For just $10, you can help provide a backpack full of supplies for a student in need. This year's fundraising goal is $300,000. You can make a donation here.
